About the Painting

Last Notes of Fall was painted from life during the final days of autumn, when the landscape seemed to linger between seasons. The brilliant colors had begun to soften, the light had taken on a gentler character, and there was a quiet sense that nature’s grand performance was drawing to a close.

What attracted me to the scene was not simply the color, but the feeling it created. The warm foliage, cool shadows, and soft afternoon light worked together to create a sense of peace and reflection. Rather than trying to describe every branch and leaf, I focused on capturing the atmosphere of the moment and the emotional response it stirred in me.

Like the closing notes of a favorite piece of music, the beauty of late autumn carries a bittersweet quality. We know it is temporary, which perhaps makes us appreciate it even more. I wanted this painting to preserve that fleeting moment, inviting the viewer to pause, breathe, and remember the simple joy of being present in a beautiful place.

Painted on location in a single sitting, Last Notes of Fall retains the freshness and spontaneity that can only come from working directly from nature. It reflects my belief that some of the most meaningful landscapes are not the most dramatic, but the ones that quietly reward those willing to slow down and truly observe.
