In the Stillness
9 x 12 inches
Oil on linen panel
Framed
There are evenings when the landscape grows quiet and the sky tells the whole story. In the Stillness captures one of those fleeting moments as the last light of day breaks through towering clouds, filling them with luminous color while the darkened land below becomes a place of rest and reflection.

About the Painting
Some of the most memorable moments in the landscape happen when very little seems to be happening at all. As daylight fades, colors become more subtle, shadows soften, and the sky often becomes the true subject. In the Stillness was inspired by one of those fleeting evenings when the clouds caught the last warm light of the setting sun, glowing against cool blues and grays before the colors disappeared into twilight.
Rather than focusing on specific landmarks, I wanted the painting to communicate the quiet mood of the moment. The simplified landscape anchors the composition while allowing the sky to dominate, inviting the viewer to slow down and experience the peaceful transition from day to evening. Expressive brushwork and layered color suggest the movement and changing forms of the clouds without becoming overly descriptive.
Painted in oil on linen, In the Stillness reflects my ongoing desire to capture not only the appearance of a place, but also the sense of calm and wonder that can be found in ordinary moments when we take the time to notice them.
