About the Painting

Lead Me to the Rock was inspired by the quiet beauty of the Texas Hill Country near Kerrville, where winding trails, weathered limestone, and ancient cypress trees create a landscape that seems to invite reflection. What first drew me to the scene was not simply its beauty, but the way the morning light revealed the forms of the land, transforming an ordinary trail into a journey of discovery.

The path gently leads the eye through the composition toward the illuminated cliffs beyond, encouraging the viewer to linger and imagine what lies just around the bend. Rather than describing every detail, I sought to simplify the landscape so that light, atmosphere, and design could become the true subjects of the painting. The expressive brushwork preserves the freshness of the moment while allowing the viewer’s imagination to complete the experience.

The title comes from Psalm 61:2: “Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” While inspired by that verse, the painting is ultimately about something universal: the desire to find places that restore us, quiet our thoughts, and remind us that there is beauty beyond the demands of everyday life. Whether it evokes a favorite hiking trail, a cherished memory, or simply the peace of being surrounded by nature, Lead Me to the Rock offers a lasting invitation to pause, reflect, and return again and again.

As with all of my work, my hope is that the painting continues to reveal something new each time it is experienced, becoming not just a depiction of a place, but a meaningful part of the collector’s own home and story.
