About the Painting
Painted from life — January 2026
A Moment in Bloom was painted from life as part of my January 2026 painting-a-day practice, a period devoted to close observation and responding intuitively to everyday subjects. The bouquet was arranged simply in a glass jar, its varied colors and textures brought together by soft light and a quiet setting.
Rather than describing each flower in detail, I focused on the overall gesture of the arrangement — how color, shape, and light interact in a fleeting moment. Warm yellows and oranges contrast with cooler purples and greens, while loose, expressive brushwork allows the forms to remain lively and spontaneous. The fallen petal at the base introduces a subtle narrative, suggesting both impermanence and grace.
Painted in oil on linen panel, this work reflects my interest in modern impressionism and still life as a way of slowing time and noticing beauty as it briefly gathers and then passes. A Moment in Bloom celebrates the simple act of attention — an ordinary subject made meaningful through presence and paint.
