About the Painting

Painted from life — January 2026

Desert Rose was painted from life as part of my January 2026 painting-a-day practice, a period dedicated to daily observation and honest response. The subject is a simple, familiar moment: two servings of banana bread and coffee, set out on Desert Rose dishes. What drew me in was not the objects themselves, but the quiet warmth of the scene and the subtle conversation between color, pattern, and light.

The floral motifs of the Desert Rose ceramics introduce soft pinks and greens that play against the warm neutrals of the bread and the muted, atmospheric background. Reflections from the coffee and the glazed surfaces add moments of contrast, while loose, expressive brushwork keeps the scene lively and immediate. The goal was not refinement, but presence — allowing the marks to remain visible and responsive.

Painted in oil on linen panel, this piece reflects my ongoing interest in modern impressionism and still life as a means of slowing down and noticing the beauty in everyday rituals. Desert Rose celebrates the quiet pleasure of a shared table, where simple objects and familiar foods become a moment worth holding onto.
