About the Painting
Family Vacation was painted from life as part of my January 2026 painting-a-day practice, a period focused on slowing down and responding honestly to everyday moments. The subject — a single seashell — became a quiet stand-in for shared experiences, memory, and time spent together away from routine.
Rather than describing the shell in strict detail, I focused on its subtle color shifts and soft geometry. Warm peach and coral tones transition into cooler violets and blues, while gentle shadows anchor the form against a muted ground. Loose, responsive brushwork allows the paint itself to carry the sense of touch and immediacy that comes from working directly from observation.
Painted in oil on linen panel, this small work reflects my interest in modern impressionism and still life as a way of exploring personal narrative through simple objects. Family Vacation is less about the shell itself and more about what it represents — a moment held briefly, then carried forward as memory.
