About the Painting
Painted from life — January 2026
Half Cabs was painted from life as part of my January 2026 painting-a-day practice, where everyday objects became unexpected subjects. A pair of worn sneakers — casually kicked off and slightly askew — caught my attention for their quiet personality and sense of presence.
Rather than aiming for precision, I leaned into the loose shapes, scuffed surfaces, and playful angles of the shoes. Cool blues and greens bounce against warm ground tones, while energetic brushwork keeps the forms lively and a bit unruly. The composition feels informal on purpose, as if the shoes were left mid-story.
Painted in oil on linen panel, this small work celebrates the humor and charm found in ordinary moments. Half Cabs is a reminder that even the most familiar things carry character — especially when we slow down long enough to notice them.
